GLP-1 Face

Understanding "GLP-1 Face":  The otherside of weightloss

The new wave of weight-loss medications has rewritten what's possible - smaller clothing sizes, steadier energy, numbers on the scale that once felt out of reach. For many of our clients, it's been genuinely transformative.

But ask anyone a few months into their GLP-1 journey what surprised them most, and you'll often hear the same thing: it wasn't the weight loss itself, it was what happened to their face.

The same medication reshaping their body is quietly reshaping their face too - and not always in the direction they'd hoped. Cheeks look flatter. The eyes seem more tired. Friends start asking, kindly, if everything's okay. It's a strange position to be in: thinner, healthier, and somehow looking less like yourself.

This is what's become known as "GLP-1 Face" - and it's real, it's common, and it's not something you simply have to live with.

What's Happening

Facial fat isn't just padding - it's structural. Distinct compartments across the cheeks, temples, and under-eyes act as scaffolding, holding skin taut and giving the face its youthful shape.

GLP-1 medications work systemically, so they draw down this volume right along with the rest of the body's fat, often within months rather than years. Skin that was once stretched over fuller contours is left without its support.

The result is a familiar pattern: hollowed cheeks and temples, deeper under-eye shadows, softer jawlines, and a loss of that natural, well-rested fullness. Some lean muscle is often lost too, including the small muscles that support skin from beneath.

Speed matters most. Gradual weight loss gives skin time to adapt; rapid loss doesn't - which is why the face can age ahead of the rest of the body, especially for patients over 40, whose skin has less collagen to draw on.

This is now a well-recognised clinical pattern among dermatologists and facial plastic surgeons, not something patients are imagining.

Why It Matters

The earlier you address facial volume loss, the easier it is to restore - the longer skin goes without support, the harder it is to bounce back.

This is one of the most treatable side effects in aesthetic medicine: with the right structural support and skin treatment, you can restore your natural contour and fullness, and keep looking like you - just lighter and healthier.
